Georgiana Molloy was among the first settlers who arrived in the
remote South West corner of Western Australia, in 1830. Her world
changed suddenly and completely as she faced new life challenges
as a pioneer, wife, mother and administrator. Initial disdain for
the local flora changed to passion and she became a self-taught
botanist whose seed collections were grown on as rare and new species
in English gardens.
JAG Films of Margaret River, Western Australia,
is developing a new media documentary about the life and work of
Georgiana Molloy. In addition to the interactive documentary, users
will have access to a database of documentation and research material
and will be able to contribute, create their own narrations, enjoy
related 'diversions' and communicate with an online community. By
using the powerful potential of the new media, the documentary will
challenge preconceptions about ways of presenting historical narrative
and will extend the boundaries of documentary making.
The
aim of this site is to provide information about the progress of
the documentary project, from research and design through to production.
